Waves
How does the electron behave as a wave and as a particle?
-Electrons could act as both particles and waves.
What is a Wave?
A wave is a transfer of energy from one point to another via a traveling disturbance.
A wave is characterized by it’s :wavelength, frequency, and amplitude
What is a Wavelength? What is a Frequency? What is Amplitude?
Wavelength is Distance from successive crest to crest or trough to trough.
Frequency is number of waves passing by
per second Measured in HERTZ (Hz) defined to be one cycle per sec.
Amplitude is maximum displacement of the wave. The amplitude will have different units depending on the type of wave, it is the distance from the middle of the wave to the peak of the wave.
Light Energy
As atoms absorbs energy, electrons jump out to a higher energy level.
Electrons release light when falling down to the lower energy level.
PHOTONS- bundles/packets of energy released when the electrons fall.
Light: Stream of Photons
